I first contacted ACT in the early 1990s before graduate school, at a time when ACT was known as comprehensive distancing. My graduate training in clinical behavior analysis and behavior therapy gave me the philosophical, technical, and applied background that I needed to fully understand this work. I became hooked. During this time, I was fortunate to have connected with a small band of fellow travelers who were pursuing this new wave agenda. Too many names to list, but if you know ACT, then you know who they are. Now, over 10 years later, I continue to do basic and applied ACT-related research, and am active in training graduate students and professionals. The fun never ends!
I've been doing basic and applied research with ACT since 1992.
I offer training and research consultation, and undertake translational research regarding ACT processes and mechanisms of change

I've authored a few books on ACT -- "Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for anxiety disorders: A practitioner's treatment guide to using mindfulness, acceptance, and value-based behavior change strategies"; "ACT on life, not on anger: The new acceptance and commitment therapy guide to problem anger"; and a workbook for the general called "The mindfulness & acceptance workbook for anxiety: A guide to breaking free from anxiety, phobias, and worry using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy." We are evaluating the effectiveness of the MAWA workbook right now in a large randomized wait-list controlled trial.
