women's room at hostel

Hi Ladies,

If anyone is still checking this thread, -- I'm not sure how much trouble or ease with which we may get a room together at the Hostel,

However, the list from what I can gather from this site is:
Maria Murphy, Garry Williamson, Jane Morton, Stefanie Wolf, Dana ?, Charlene Brown, and Terri Mudge.
I'm sorry if I left anyone out. So this looks like 7 women to stay at the hostel, but there could be more or perhaps less on the first night.

So my request is if you might be an early person to check in, could you give them these names to ease the process. I will be arriving into Ohare at about 5:30.

I look forward to meeting everyone, and Happy Travels to you.

Terri

hostel room share

ladies,

I have booked at the hostel, BUT it appears that they will not honor requests to room with other ACT S14 folks. (for next time, u have to reserve as a group and pay in advance) In the meantime, I would love for someone to email me & maybe we could request to room together by using our names. I am staying Sunday night thru Friday nite. My name is Garry. Please email me & maybe we can exchange phone numbers. It would be great to be able to contact someone by cell phone.

Plus.... No shuttle from the airport. Coming from O'Hara, take the Blue Line Train to LaSalle, come up on Congress Parkway.. Walk East five blocks past State St. to the hostel. Good luck.

room share at Hostel

Hi Garry and other ladies,

That's terrible news!! I had thought that by specifying that we wanted to share rooms with SI 4 people that would be enough.' I wonder what we can do to make this happen?
I also plan to stay Sun - Friday. I don't get in until 6:00 on Sun eve however. I was thinking maybe the first person there could give all of our names -- and I would sure be willing to give them my credit card # in advance so we could have a SI4 room.
So, let's put names together and phone #s, and see what we can accomplish.
My name is Terri Mudge, cell phone 251-648-4852.

room share at hostel

Hi Terri

Please include me. My name is Maria Murphy. I don't have a cell phone. My email is maria@gmurphy42.fsnet.co.uk

I was disappointed to hear that we might not all be together. I hope that this can still be arranged. When I booked I requested that I be in the same room as Jane Moreton and any other women attending the ACTSI4.

I have booked for nights of 25 through to 1 June. I'm also happy for them to have my credit card number so I can pay in advance.

Many thanks

Maria

room share

Terri & Ladies,

Let's all stay in touch.

women's room - hostel

I' m looking forward to meeting everyone at the Hostel. I signed up for the 6 people room, but I am certainly willing to change to 10 if this is what other ladies do. -- How many women do you think we have??

From this blog, it looks like 6 or less. But, I am curious about if all of the messages are here, because a few of mine seem to be missing. --

so, are any of the women renting a car? I thought I saw on the amenities of the hostel that they have Airport pickup, so I plan to check into that. I don't really see a need for a car in Chicago, but I could be wrong.

Teri,

can we connect? (tigerlady@sbcglobal.net)

take care,

Car vs. Public Transportation

I highly recommend just using public transportation in Chicago. You would need to pay at least $30 per day to park the car, let alone rent it. The "L" and buses are part of the same system, so if you buy a fare card for one, you can use it for both. You can find CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) maps online, and in the train stations.

The train ("L") goes to both O'Hare and Midway, so you can ride to the hotel for $2. You really won't get there much quicker by car. You can of course also ride the "L" to IIT to attend the SI.

Just some tips...

women's room - hostel

I signed up for a room (late), but didn't know what name the room is under. So, is there room for one more? If so, what name? By the way, I know to bring my own lock, but did I see somewhere that the hostel has a secure luggage storage area? This is my first hostel adventure.

Hostel

Men,

I have spoken with the Hostel. If you call in and reference my name, or Mr. Michael Vureck's (sp?), they will attempt to accomodate and place the ACT folks in the same room. I am there for Sunday and Monday nights. I believe they have lockers for stuff, so bring a lock. Make sure to emphasize that you want the same room as those of us listed. I guess I'll meet you there!

Hostel

I am staying at the Hostel in a 10 bed female dorm, nights of 23 and 24 and a six bed female dorm 25-30. I put in a note with my booking asking to share with other ACTSI4 folks so if others do the same that might work. Or let me know who you are and we could try linking up the bookings by name with the Hostel.

Jane Morton

Booked

I just called the hostel and booked to stay in the room with ACTSI4 people for May 25-28. Thanks!

hostel room share

Hi Jane and others,

I've just made a reservation for the nights of 25-30 May (there wasn't a bed for 31), with a request to be in the same dorm as Jane and any other women attending ACTSI4.

I look forward to meeting you then.

Hostel

Hi Jane,

Did you mean the nights of the 25 and 26? I assume you meant that you are attending the pre conference so you would get there Sunday night (the 25th). If so, I also plan to attend the pre conference workshop and would be interested in staying in the hostel.

Jane
I am interested in staying in the hostel as well. Do you have contact information for the hostel? I will be attending the preconference only. Thanks, Charlene Brown email, cdivineb@yahoo.com

I reserved a room on the website at hichicago.org and requested to be in a room with other women attending ACTSIV. Hopefully they will accomodate us!

Hostel bookings

Hi all

Sorry I haven't been checking in and answering your queries.

The address is in a posting below from Michael. That's where I got it from. I know nothing about this hostel. I'm coming from Australia. Hope it's good.

I'm arriving on the Friday before the workshops - just because that's the only frequent flyers flight i could get, and then I'm leaving on the Friday - the last day of the conference.

I'm now in the same dorm the whole way through - not sure if it's ten beds or six. May depend on how many are joining me.

I suggest ear plugs! Even if we all get in early-ish and don't talk too much, it's still a lot of people in one room! And no guarantees about surrounding rooms either!

See you soon.

Jane

Hostel info

Hi Jane,

I am considering staying in the hostel. Do you have any info yet about if they will reserve an ACTSI4 room for women. Have you heard from any other women interested?

I am just starting to make my plans, unsure if I will do the whole week, but pretty sure I will. I'll be coming up from Mobile and hopefully will have a friend from Baton Rouge make the trip with me, so she may also want to stay there.

Terri

May 26

I am looking to share a room at the Hilton, or possibly at the Hostel. I am only in town for the preconference and will be staying the night of the 26th only.

Please contact me if you are looking to split some costs!

Hostelling International Chicago

Just to let people know: there is a Hostel that appears to be a few blocks away from the Hilton. Around $30 to $36 a night. It's a big hostel with dorms (6-bed being the smallest), but it seems to have a good reputation/good reviews, and they say that people of all ages stay there.

I was planning on staying

I was planning on staying there. Perhaps we could collect people who would be interested so we all end up in the same room and therefore come and go at similar times. I have had experiences with people coming in very, very late in those dorm rooms.

hostel

I would be interested in sharing a guys dorm room. Any idea if there is any way to secure our stuff when we leave for the day? I am a newbie to hostels. I will be there for the pre-institute through the 30th. So, I guess, the 25th and checking out on the 30th.
Any other guys out there?
David

hostel

I have sent an email to the hostel about requesting an ACTSI4 guys' room. There are lockers, I assume that we supply a lock; and there is 24-hour secure luggage storage. I'm not a newbie, but it's been almost 40 years since staying in a city hostel!
