In this work, Pepper outlines his metaphilosophy that philosophical world views cluster around a few distinct root metaphors and truth criteria. He describes the distinguishing features and characteristics of the four world views he considers most adequate (i.e., have the best precision and scope): formism, mechanism, organicism, and mechanism.
