Learning outcomes of this training:

* Develop fluency in applying ACT metaphors and exercises.
* Practise case conceptualizations using hexaflex.
* Work with personal barriers that interfere with your value as a therapist.
* Practice applying ACT in one-on-one “therapy” with feedback.
* Learn how to track on several levels at once (interpersonal and intrapersonal).
* Flexibility! in how you apply ACT.

On completion of this course you will have further developed your personal style of ACT, learnt to be more ACT consistent through personal feedback from Martin.

After this training you will be also be eligible for the supervision program that follows in April, (only for graduates of this intermediate training as numbers are limited to 8) you have the opportunity to become an experienced ACT therapist.

This 2-day Intermediate Skills Training workshop, with Martin Brock is designed for those who have completed our 3-4 day experiential Introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), but is also open to those who have done such training elsewhere.

This training will enable new ACT therapists to deepen their ACT expertise and to gain confidence in their ability to remain ACT-consistent. The training is also designed to give students practice in applying ACT to a range of situations. During the course students will spend significant time applying ACT with feedback from Martin.

The workshop will include an experiential component. This means that participants will be invited to work with some of their own psychological material, as this is considered a necessary component of becoming a competent ACT therapist. Understanding one’s own tendencies to avoid difficult psychological experiences will be used to illuminate the way your material interacts with your clients’.

Places on the course are limited to 16 so that all students have the opportunity for individual feedback.

ACT Trainer: Martin Brock MSc
Martin Brock MSc is a Lecturer/Practitioner at the Institute of Mental Health, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust, England and is a recognised ACT Trainer. His qualifications include an MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Nursing, an ENB 650/PG Diploma in Adult Behavioural Psychotherapy and an RMN. His Clinical experience has spanned over 30 years in the NHS. He has worked as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and has been a Principal Adult Psychotherapist for 11 years. In this position he has a lead role for developing Acceptance and Mindfulness Based Treatments within the Trust Psychological Services. His education experience includes teaching, supervising and assessing students within undergraduate and postgraduate provision and he has extensive experience as a clinical workplace mentor within PGDip/BSc/BA/MSc programmes. Part of his current role is that of Education and Practice Consultant within which he delivers modules in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Mindfulness Based Approaches at degree level in association with Sheffield Hallam University.
Martin is also joint programme leader for an MSc in Psychological Approaches in Psychosis which commences September 2009.
