Behavioral Activation

How about a separate forum for Behavioral Activation. Isn't it considered a "fellow traveler?"

Introduction

I read about this modality in the Feb. 13th issue of Time Mag. and was immediately struck with how accurately the article described my own experience. Having had a life long struggle with depression, I finally arrived at the discovery that it is contextual. In other words, my familial narrative is depressing. The many early messages that I have assimilated into my personality create the ongoing depression that has permeated my whole existence. Further, the only way I have been able to create a positive perspective is to realize that these preconditioned thoughts are simply that...thoughts! And I find some relief in difficult times in mindfulness meditation. I'm thankfull that I found this site and look forward my involvement.

other resources

Feliippis,

I'm assuming you are talking about ACT, not behavioral activation. Another great resource for people who are new to ACT in addition to the forums and who are reading "Get Out of Your Mind" is the "ACT for the Public" listserv. You can find that by going to groups.yahoo.com and searching under act for the public. Its free to join and is a pretty active listserv with a number of people asking questions about ACT and getting responses from both non-therapists and experienced therapists. Its been quite interesting to me. You may want to consider checking it out, particularly as a companion as you read the "Get Out of Your Mind" book. Hope that's helpful.

Behavioural Activation

I'd welcome the inclusion of Behavioural Activation in the 'Fellow Travellers' section.

I can't seem to work out how to add a new forum there though.

new forum

Oops...I forgot only site editors can add actual forum categories (any ACBS member can add topics within the categories, though!). I've added one for Behavioral Activation. Please talk amongst yourselves and let me know if you think any other forum categories that need to be created!

Thanks Eric

Eric,

Thanks for the new forum. I'll add some content shortly and see where it takes us.

Best wishes

Joe

Behavioral Activation

It is undoubtedly a fellow travelor. The cool thing about this site is that you can add whatever you like. The ACT and RFT sections are more advanced because they had a head start. The rest, the ACBS membership will determine de facto.

Bottom line: go for it
