VA practitioners are invited to train at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for PTSD at the Togus, Maine VA. Twenty-six weekly cohorts are conducted each year. Each cohort has ten veterans and is presented 14 ACT classes.
ACT for Veterans Suffering with Trauma Memories: An intensive, values-based approach to getting veterans back into life.
Learning Objectives:
1. Using ACT to change a person's relationship with trauma memories.
2. How to design a system to effectively treat PTSD and other disorders with no clinician burnout.
This is LIVE ACT training Your training will include sitting in on our daily 8 to 9am staff meeting and then attending all three of the treatment classes each day. We will also discuss ACT with you between sessions. These meetings will include theoretical discussions of Functional Contextualism, Relational Frame Theory and ACT. We will especially focus on how our classes are designed to maximally impact the three core elements of ACT therapy.
No prior knowledge of ACT is required for this training. VA practitioners of any theoretical orientation are welcome; those who are just curious about ACT are always welcome.

ACT 2008 Ongoing Training Opportunity at Togus VA, Maine
I just finished sitting in on this one week intensive program for veterans with Drs. Kevin Polk and Jerald Hambright. This ACT in ACTion experience is well worth the investment of time and energy. Drs. Polk and Hambright deliver their passion to the veterans and to the observers. You will hardly feel like an observer. Be careful about blinking as the fluid Togus version of ACT is ever changing. Thanks to Kevin and Jerald, as well as Dr. Kate Mocciola and intern Chad Drake.
